CHILD SEATS
CHILD RESTRAINT LEGISTATION
The law on using child restrains in car and light goods vehicle makes it a requirement that all children must use a restraint aporopriate for their size, and can no longer use and adult seat belt alone in the front or rear seats if under an certain height.
The legislation states the following:
- All children under 3 years old must use an appropriate child restraint when travelling in a car or goods vehicle .
- Children aged 3 years or more and up to135cm (4ft 5ins) in height must use a child restraint appropriate to their size when travelling in cars or gooods vehicles fitted with seat belts.
- Rear-facing child restraints must not be used in seals with an active front air-bag.
- All child restraints must conform to modern safety standards, meaning UN-ECE Regulation 44.04.
- All occupants of car and goods vehicles must use seat belts, where provided, and the number of people carried in such vehicles must not exceed the number of seats available fitted with seat belts or child restraints. If you are caught not adhering to the new legislation, you could face an on-the-spot fine or go to court.
